With RSC, you're writing a program that generates a program. The output of RSC is a client bundle – React code that runs in the browser.
That's why "rendering" RSC has nothing to do with HTML. The result of rendering RSC is a new client tree. A new client React program.

React Nabors (they/t @rachelnabors
Past about a hundred pages, you cannot expect one person to own your docs and have good docs. You need to give them at least two of the following: a budget, a team, other teams' dedicated time.
Anything less, and all that person can do is shuffle words back and forth

If you have no success metrics, you will not know if your work is making your docs better. Set metrics up first FFS, before you start installing a new docs engine or pumping out new content

@dai_shi @__morse @cpojer the point of React (and RSC) is a shared component format where people can expect a certain coding idiom to be interpreted in a certain way. a framework has the option to skip SSR, but *constraints* on Server and Client components in RSC must be consistent across the ecosystem.

@__morse @dan_abramov @cpojer So, it sounds like there are two conflicting ideas and it seems like a good reason for multiple frameworks to coexist?

Phases of talk preparation:
1. I know exactly what I’m going to talk about, going to be awesome.
2. Oh god this whole idea is fundamentally flawed, it can’t be done.
3. Eureka this is going to be even better than I originally thought.
Hello from phase 2 👋😄

React Server is an attempt to standardize the best parts of existing solutions to the same problems (Remix loaders, Astro templates, GraphQL fragments) in a way that feels native to the React paradigm. we want you to be able to share React components with server logic across fw.

… to disambiguate the two layers, we’ve renamed the old layer to “Client” React. all of the features and libraries you used before keep working in that part of the world — we literally haven’t touched it. we just gave it a different name. pic.twitter.com/myUUu0HwDj

… in the RSC paradigm, all of these things keep working! we are not *replacing* that layer — we are adding a *new* layer that can run at the build or request time. that’s Server Components. the only thing they can do is pass data to the “React you already know”… pic.twitter.com/KK5bRtVKaG

another reason i think it’s good (but embarrassing) for meta is that it shows there is a light at the end of the tunnel. for a long time (at least to me) it seemed like it’s unclear if the screen can ever be good, gestures intuitive, etc. apple seems to have proven it’s solvable

at its best, apple figures out how to make technology feel natural. for example, inertial scrolling. apple’s lasting contribution isn’t the products it makes but the naturalness bar it raises for every product in the space.

the incremental adoption story for React Server Components is outside-in. you’d fetch a bit of data and hand it down to your existing page (whose root component you would tag with “use client”). with time you might start moving that “use client” downwards where it makes sense.

@youyuxi another way to look at it (not sure if offensive) is that react tries to make the Good Parts that are shared between platforms (or at least shareable) really shine (with deference to their respective original designs), but lets you use every platform feature, even if escape hatch

@dan_abramov React feels more like a programming model that just happens to target the web.
I don't think it's fundamentally bad - but some people prefer the platform to be front-and-center when targeting that platform.

大御所はいつの時… twitter.com/i/web/status/1...

My biggest lesson from 10 years of React: Intuition is overrated. Intuitions in programming are not innate but based on previous experience. Intuitions change over time as the industry moves on. New lessons echo through it. Each next generation will have different expectations.
