ジャマイカ音楽の国外からの影響はルンバやボレロ、マンボといったアフロ•キューバンの各ジャンルをはじめ、ビック•バンド•スウィングからリズム•アンド•ブルースと続きアメリカの黒人音楽が非常に重要な影響を及ぼしている。ジャマイカでもジャズは30年代から人気があったが50sはR&Bだ！
