昔から、ある特定の能力は異常に高いのに、社会人としてはバランスが悪く、色々つっこみ所が多い人に魅力を感じてしまう。普通の感覚とかけ離れてるから嫌われちゃったりする人もいるけど僕は「あ、良い人みつけた！」ってなってうれしくなる。

それで思い出したのが、東大法学部を出たあと、ハーバードのロースクールに留学した経験のある私の友人が、やはり日本から知り合いが、ハーバードの授業で、ずっと議論していて、A説もB説もC説もあるな、それじゃあ、と「正解」がなんなのか言わずに教師が去っていったので驚いていたと言ったこと。

いわゆる「ディベート」である必要はなく、学校での学びの中で、さまざまなこことを話し合ったり、論じたりする経験があれば、そのような能力が培われるし、他人のそのような能力についても「目が肥えて」いくと思うのだけれども、そのような機会がないから、議員もそのようなプロセスで選べない。

本当は、理を尽くして語ったり、社会問題について鋭い分析をして賛成反対の立場から論じる能力で議員を選べばいいのだけれども、よく考えてみれば私たちは学校教育の中でなにかを議論するという訓練や経験を積んでいないから、他人のそのような能力も評価、判断できない。

マスコミは面白くするために米中戦争と煽るわけだけど、結局のところIT技術では勝者総取りになるから米国ばかり潤うのが問題で、それに対抗して自前でやる経済規模があるのが中国だけって事に過ぎない。EUは規制で対抗しようとしてるけど多分ダメだし、それ以外の国は指くわえて見てるだけ。
