そして関西空港が着工され伊丹空港全廃が話題に上がったとき、かつて散々「静かな空を返せ」と反対運動を続けてきた自治体は手のひらを返したように存続運動をはじめた。小学校で騒音反対作文を書かされた僕には唖然とする事態だった。

エアバスが伊丹空港に入るという話になったとき、新聞がいかにエアバスが危険な飛行機だとか、大出力のエンジン騒音がすさまじいとか書き立てていたことも覚えている。旧式なB737-200とかB727の落雷みたいな爆音のほうが大バイパスターボファンの爆音よりよっぽど凶悪だぞ。

僕は空港のある町・伊丹市で小学生時代を過ごした。伊丹空港に関する作文という課題を出され、飛行機マニアだった僕は最新鋭のジェット旅客機がどう騒音対策しているかということを書いて出したら、その教師は困ったような顔で「こういう事を求めたのじゃない」と遠まわしに言った。
