毎日渋面を引っ提げてパンを買っていく客がいる。制服からして近所の私立の学生であり、何の変哲もない客なのだが、余りにも渋面で顔面にでかでかと「ごはん派」と書いてあるので覚えてしまった。そんなに米粒が良いなら何故私のパン屋に足繁く通うのだろう。何か喧嘩でも売られてるのだろうか？

私のパンはありがたいことに近所でも評判で、断ってはいるが取材の要望も来る代物だ。ひとつひとつ丹精込めて作っている我が子同然のパンを、この世で一番嫌なものを見る目で買われて行くのはいい気がしない。が、きちんと代金を頂いてしまっては商売は成立してしまうので、そう簡単に追い出せない。
