私はHIVの治療がよくなるタイミングで関わりはじめたので、まにあわなかったひとと、その後の治療の波にのれたひとの境をみました。
若い人が亡くなっていくこと、免疫がこわれていく怖さ、身近なひとに伝えられない苦しさと。たくさんのことを学びました。

二式水戦まめちしき。水戦は離水時に主翼の20ミリ機銃口から海水が入るので、実戦ではテープで銃口をカバーして海水の浸入を防ぎ、弾も最初の1,2発は演習弾にしてテープを破って発射する際に弾が自爆しないようにしていた。主翼前縁の銃口をふさぐことで速度も2～5ノットほど上がったという。

いずれの場合も挑戦を怠ったツケだ。

博物館や美術館や図書館が高い金出して本物を買い集めたり、借りてきて展示をするのはなぜだと思う。それを大勢の人が見に来るのはなぜだと思う。どんなものか見たいだけなら、有名なものは大抵写真がネットに上がってる。それだけじゃダメなんだってのは、本能的に直感しているんじゃないか。

ずっと古典文学をやってきて実感するのは、本物の重要さだ。そりゃあこのご時世ネットにあるアーカイブやデータベースは活用しなけりゃならないけど、そこに上がってる情報は本物じゃない。10年、100年、1000年単位で残ってきた本を手にとることでしか分からないことがあるってのは本当だよ。
