「ホビット」かなり辛口に字幕と原語を比較したつもりだったけど、今のところ文句はゼロ。なぞなぞ遊びでビルボとゴクリの「You lost.」「Lost? ...lost! Loooost!」を「君は勝ちを落とした」「『落とした』？ …ない！ 落としちゃった！」と訳したのは惚れた。

でも、石井さんの著書を読んでいるときは、不思議と違うんです。 絵のない文章は、記憶と併せて味わうからだと思います。だから、津波の記憶のない人には、この映画は絵として大変意味あるものだと思います。 そのあと、ぜひ本も読んでみて欲しいです。 震災を風化させないで欲しいです。

僕のような受け取り方を、普通の人はしないと思います。津波被害に遭われた方やご遺族の方は、ショックを受けるかも知れません。 実際、上映中はすすり泣きの声がそこらじゅうから聞こえていました。 その方が普通でしょう。僕は、心から何かが欠けてしまったのかも知れません。

ひとつ、心に残ったのは、精神を病んでしまった市役所職員の若い男の子が、 やがて自分から遺族と遺体のために働き出し、自分を取り戻していく所。 ここは原作の本にはなかった描写だと思うんですが、これは感銘を受けました。

なぜかというと、この映画は基本的には、群馬県高崎市のロケなんです。丁寧に撮られているので、知らない人が観れば、釜石だと思うでしょう。 でも僕の中の、旧釜石二中安置所の記憶が、鮮明すぎるんです。 だからこそ、ある種の冷静さが働いて「つくりもの」として観ることができました。

僕個人がこの映画をどう受け止めたかというと、 「お話」として客観的に観ることができました。 自分でも驚くほど、記憶の中の安置所の映像とはリンクしませんでした。安置所のシーンを観ても、知らない場所なんです。（もちろん息を呑むほどリアルです）
