なんか色々と反応をもらっている。子供を産む、もっと言えば雌性配偶子を作る方をメスと呼ぶんだよって定義の話をしてるんじゃないんだ、幼児や小学生にそれをどうにかわかりやすく＆面白く(こっちが重要)伝えるのにはどうしたらよかったのかなって話なんだ。

RT < コウモリの正確なRCSを形状モデルを使って求めたって話。鳥の群れの速度なんかをレーダーで計測するというのは従来からある手法なんだけど、RCSがわかれば個体数や群れの密度などをより正確に算出でき、定性的観測から定量的観測へのシフトを促すことにつながる、ということのよう。

先日あるチビっ子に喰らった「なんで人間もサルもサイもみんなメスしか子供産まんの？」という質問は強烈だった。有性生殖のメリットやら、そもそも卵子を作るのがメスなんだという定義やらを説明することは出来るが、子供に対する返答としては正解じゃないと思った。なんて返すべきだったのだろうか。

来園者向けの解説をしていると、たまにチビっ子の「なんでなんで」攻撃に合う。「なんでマンドリルの鼻は赤いの？」「なんで１頭しかおらんの？」「なんでサイいつも寝てるの？」などなどバラエティに富むが、答えが知りたいってより質問という行為そのものが楽しいのかなって感じる子供もしばしば。

ざっくりいうと：風で振動する花に追随するガは、環境が暗くなるとセンサからアクチュエータへのディレイが増えて追随性が悪化するけど、それが顕著なのは花の周波数が2Hz以上の場合で、現実の花はだいたいそれ以下で振動してるから実際にはわりと問題なさそうだわ、というようなお話
