姉妹は認定されて補聴器でした。
補聴器してから確かに高校時代より普通に近くなりました。
仕事で、少し耳が悪いので補聴器してますと挨拶したら、「少しじゃ無いよ、貴方相当悪いよ」と言われました。 それまでにも話しかけてて側に行くまで聞こえなかったのかもしれません。

それがあるからといって全て聞き取れるようになる訳ではないけど、僕のできる最善は尽くしているはず。

成人するまで補聴器なしで生きてきて、当然聞こえなくて不便なこともあったけど何とかなった……と思ってた。
聴力の穴は努力と意識で埋められると信じていた。
けれど、僕が聞こえていなかった分の負担は他の誰かが被っていたと思うと、今まで「何とかなった」感覚は自信ではなく虚栄に思えてくる。

宇治川沿いを観月橋から御幸橋まで歩いてハッカチョウ調査。やはりハッカチョウは出ない。このコースはなぜかイソヒヨドリも出ない。セッカもほとんど囀らなくなり、モズの声だけが目立つ。数十羽規模のコシアカツバメの群れが２つ出現。ツバメよりもコシアカツバメの姿の方が多い。

その後犯人は捕まったんだけど、地元出身で関東在住者が里帰りして起こした犯行だった（もちろん日本人）。
大学関係者一同「ほら見ろ！違うじゃん」と怒ってたの覚えてるよ。OBもOGも。
何かあると軽い気持ちで疑うんだよね、でもそれ当事者にとっては全然軽くないし、失礼なんだがな。

地元ではなく普段来ない東京の番組が来て、大学の前で学生捕まえて無許可でinterviewしたり。別に被疑者がいるわけでもないのに何故わざわざ東京から来る。疑われてる外国人たちはどう思ってるか聞いてみましょう以外の意図があるとは思えない。広報が激怒して追っ払ったようだけど。

10年近く前だけど、地元の秘湯で殺人事件があったんだよね。危ない言われ始めてガイドブックから外した直後だった。母校の近くだったし学生の温泉サークルも良く利用してたので警察もヒアリングしに来たんだけど、当時ずいぶん「お宅の留学生がやったんだろ」という誹謗中傷が大学にあったと聞いた。

被災当時の写真を見返すと、当時の風の恐怖が蘇り、涙が止まらなくなる。
今まで当たり前だった風景が一変してしまった辛さ、ふるさとを離れたくなくても出ていかなくて人の力になれなかった自分の不甲斐なさに嫌になる。
議会と気候が落ち着いたら、１年経った町の記録として写真を撮りながら廻ろ。
