We don't pretend that this is a prediction, or try to make money off of people's suffering.
Of course there is a chance of aftershocks. There was a big earthquake, there will always be aftershocks. But the risk is not higher than before, and it is going down as time passes.

@birddetectiveTR It looks like liquefaction & lateral spreading to me; this is a pretty common phenomenon along the banks of rivers. Shaking can cause wet sediments to lose their strength, and then they slide sideways if there is a slope.

Lukashenka’s propaganda decided to show that “everything is all right” with the Russian A-50 AEW&C aircraft and published a video of it moving at Machulishchy airfield. The video was taken at dusk, no details can be seen. It was published on the 4th day after the incident.

1. The video was taken at dusk on the 4th day after the incident in Machulishchy. The footage shows only the moving of the aircraft on the ground, which doesn’t prove that the aircraft has no damage to the rotating antenna of the Shmel radar or even that the aircraft can fly.

First, you have to understand what happened in the earthquake.
It started small: a fault about 30 km NW of the city of Gaziantep broke at one spot about 10 km deep.
That was a surprise - it's a fairly minor fault!

The rupture traveled NE on the fault until it ran into the East Anatolian Fault. And that's when things got bad. It split: running both NE and SW, racing along the fault at ~3.2 km per second, for >100 km in each direction.
The whole thing took about a minute.

Slip in the earthquake reached 4-6 m, and the area around the fault for 10s of kilometers had to bend to allow that to happen. (Actually, it had bent for decades due to tectonic motions; now it suddenly unbent.)
That movement changed the stress on all the nearby faults.

This immediately triggered aftershocks, including a M6.7 earthquake only ~11 minutes after the first earthquake.
This aftershock occurred only ~10 km northeast of where the M7.8 quake started, and must have been terrifying.

But of course that was not the end. About 9 hours later, a 2nd earthquake was triggered. This one started on a new fault to the N, also ~10 km deep.
The rupture spread, faster to the W, slower to the E. As it moved east, it split onto two faults.

Surprisingly, the slip in this second earthquake reached higher values than in the first - even though it was a smaller magnitude (Mw7.5 vs. Mw7.8). The first earthquake released more energy because the fault is longer.

So how can we think about the ongoing hazard?
The faults that slipped a lot released a lot of stress. That means that they are unlikely to produce another large earthquake for some time to come.

However, the crust around those faults moved a lot, so parts of the faults are readjusting. Also, other nearby faults are adjusting. That means that we can expect aftershocks for awhile.
Although smaller, these can be dangerous.

We don't know when these faults will produce earthquakes, though, because we don't know (1) how much stress was on them before or (2) how strong they are.

Most earthquakes do not trigger large earthquakes on nearby faults.
But it can happen.
Triggering can be delayed by years to decades, though, so it's hard to know how to use this information.

This is very cool! GPS stations track their locations by self-locating using satellites. We use these to "see" tectonic movements year to year, and to measure displacements in earthquakes.
But it looks like we can also use them to measure shaking in earthquakes!

As for the spinning of the “mushroom”: the video shows that the black spot on it remains on the same place as in the satellite image dated February 28. This means that the rotodome was not turned on and was not spinning during taxiing today.
