@SocStudMollDiv 現生軟体動物の場合は貝殻以外の軟体部も実在するので、軟体部の情報を軽視するなというのは一定の説得力があります。古生物学では化石のかたちは実在ですが、生きざまや進化に関してはあくまでそこから推測される二次的情報なので、後者が主体と考えるとそれはそれで問題があると私は認識しています。

@japanfossil おっしゃる通りです。本当に大切なのは、殻だの軟体部だのDNAだのといった器官や手法間の差ではなく、限られた条件下でいかに知恵を働かせてリアルな考察を導くかだと思います。ただ、現生貝類に対して殻だけで安易に結論を出す「手抜き」が「conchology」とのレッテルを貼られてしまっていたのです。
